Rokathama/रोकथाम - prevention

Jivana/जीवन - living, life

Many common health conditions people are faced with, such as heart disease, strokes and diabetes are considered preventable, or at least partly preventable. As physiotherapists, much of our studies are geared towards assessing and treating a variety of musculoskeletal conditions. While a few massage sessions may temporarily relieve some aches and niggles, many of the health conditions facing Australians today require a different management approach. They requires another tool physiotherapists are trained to deliver, preventative healthcare.

“We are what we repeatedly do… therefore excellence is not an act, but a habit.”

- Will Durant, Philosopher and Historian

At Rokvana our core goal is to help people learn about their health and promote engagement in regular exercise. Both these tools are aimed at decreasing your risk of chronic diseases and helping you maintain your independence.

So who is Club Rokvana suited to? Anyone is welcome to Club Rokvana, however our program is aimed at those aged 40-75 years. If you're unsure about if this service is right for you, see if you relate to any of the following.

  •  You don't have a regular exercise routine and aren't quite sure where to start.

  • The thought of going to a gym or fitness studio is a bit intimidating.

  • You're happy to work out at home in an effectively and timely manner.

  • You want more individualisation than a YouTube video or generic workout plan.

  • You don't know what weights or fitness equipment would be best suited for your goals.

If any of the above sounds like you, or you have any questions, feel free to phone or email us for a chat!

James Moroney

Director, Physiotherapist

Hi, I'm James, director of Rokvana. I grew up in the leafy Western Suburbs of Brisbane, before venturing to Townsville for several years, where I attained a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from James Cook University in 2018. Upon graduating I returned to Brisbane and worked within the public hospital system as a physiotherapist for five years. I've worked in a diverse range of areas including surgical and medical wards, intensive care, outpatients, women's health, and hospital-in-the-home care.

Whilst I loved hospital work, I noticed much of the care tended to be reactive rather than proactive. I frequently wished I could go back in time and empower patients with knowledge to improve their health outcomes and decrease their risk of future hospitalisation. This drove me to create Rokvana; a proactive health service offering scientifically backed methods to improve individuals' prospects of leading healthier lives and reduce their risk of chronic diseases.

When I'm not working I love going to the markets with my partner Elizabeth and running or riding along the Brisbane River. I'm a sports tragic and will gladly talk for hours about anything from rugby and cricket through to Formula 1.
